FAQ

Frequently asked questions.

What is a 501c3 corporation?

Section 501(c)(3) is just one of the tax law provisions granting exemption from the federal income tax to non-profit organizations. This exemption does not cover other federal taxes such as employment taxes.

501(c)(3) exemptions apply to corporations, and any community chest, fund, or foundation, organized and operated exclusively for religious, charitable, scientific, testing for public safety, literary, or educational purposes, or to foster national or international amateur sports competition, or for the prevention of cruelty to children or animals.

Another provision, 26 U.S.C. § 170, provides a deduction, for federal income tax purposes, for some donors who make charitable contributions to 501(c)(3) organizations. Testing for public safety is described under 509(a)(4) of the code which makes the organization a public charity and not a private foundation, and contributions to 509(a)(4) organizations are not deductible to the donor for federal income, estate, or gift tax purposes.

2. Are you registered with the New York State Charity Bureau?

Yes! Currently, we are the only perinatal berevement non-profit organization in the entire capital region of New York State to be registered and in good standing with the Attorney General Eliot Spitzer Charity Bureau. This means that we have submitted all the necessary forms, paperwork, and fees to the attorney general of New York State and they have given us their endorsement as a reliable charity for the public to make donations.

3. Can I write off a donation on my taxes?

Yes! Any donation can be included on your taxes--either cash or gifts-in-kind. You may use your donation thank-you letter as your receipt, or request a seperate receipt.

4. Can my baby be mentioned if I do not make a donation?

Yes, every baby may be mentioned in our 'In Memory Of...' section. Let us know how you would like your baby's memorial worded and you may include a picture if you wish. If at any time you change your mind you may request us to remove the memorial, or if you wish to change the memorial let us know how we can best accomodate your wishes. *The 'In Memory Of...' section is solely for bereaved parents; if other friends or family members make a request we will permit this with the parents consent.

5. How will donations be acknowledged?

Any and every donation or gift-in-kind will be acknowledged with a written thank-you letter. With the permission of the bereaved parents we will also acknowledge individuals on our 'In Memory Of...' section. The bereaved parents have complete control over how this may appear, if at all. Thanks for your understanding.
